The New Season Has Started!

As soon as the winter temperatures get more moderate in Vienna, the first rides and attractions open up again in the Wiener Wurstelprater. This spring awakening usually begins at the beginning of March.

Prater’s main season

Traditionally, the Schweizerhaus heralds the Prater main season with its opening. Every year (except last year, you-know-why) the Schweizerhaus opens its doors on March 15th at 11:00 am. Of course, this not only brings joy to the beer-hungry regulars, but also to the Karl Kolarik family: “A perfectly tapped Budweiser Budvar after such a long dry spell, plus a uniquely crispy Schweizerhaus grilled wagtail. The fact that we can finally spoil our loyal guests again is the greatest gift for us!” In addition to beer, stilts, and a few VIPs, there is always live music to celebrate the opening.

But back to the Wurstelprater.

The main season starts on March 15th and lasts until October 31st. During this period, attractions and rides are open between 10:00 in the morning and 1:00 at night. Due to the temperature, the opening hours are a bit narrower at the beginning of the season – with core hours between 12:00-22:00.

Since life in the Wurstelprater takes place under the open sky, there may of course be deviations depending on the weather. Here the operators react very flexibly and spontaneously.

This is also the reason why there are no exact opening times for the individual rides – in case you have ever wondered. All operators are completely free to decide individually on a daily basis whether, when and for how long they want to open!

Anything new?

After 2016 and 2018, the Olympia Looping is a guest in the Wurstelprater for the third time this year! The Olympia Looping features 5 loopings, a rail length of 1250m, a runway height of 32.5m and a max speed of 80km/h, making it the largest transportable roller coaster in the world.

From April on, the Wiener Riesenrad offers a different kind of experience. If the ride on the Riesenrad is usually too boring for you, you can do without the safe walls of a wagon on the new panorama glass platform and more or less freely hover over Vienna.

Also new are 4 bicycle parking spaces in and on the edge of the Wurstelprater. These are located: A) in front of the Luftburg, B) at the corner of Hans-Kraus-Weg and Eduard-Lang-Weg, as well as C) in front of and D) behind the Englischer Reiter.
