Disney’s The Lion King – The Musical
Since its world premiere in 1997, the heartwarming story of the lion cub Simba has captivated more than 130 million people across the globe. To date, there have been 32 international productions in over 100 cities across 24 countries, with the show translated into nine different languages. Its global success surpasses that of any other film, Broadway show, or entertainment product in cinematic history.
Director Julie Taymor has transformed the famous Disney film into a theatrical experience unlike any other. From the very first notes of "The Circle of Life" (composed by Elton John and Hans Zimmer, and originally performed by Carmen Twillie and Lebo M), elephants, giraffes, and gazelles make their way through the auditorium – a procession that stands as one of the most moving moments in the history of musical theatre.
The production at the Theater im Prater will be the German version of the musical; as with the production in Hamburg, both the dialogue and the songs will be performed in German. Disney’s The Lion King is planned as an open-ended (en-suite) run in Vienna.

Theater im Prater
Currently under construction in the heart of Vienna’s Prater park is an architectural landmark designed to fit perfectly into its surroundings: the Theater im Prater, which will feature approximately 1,800 seats. Initiated by ATG Entertainment, this construction project sets new standards for modern musical theater – focusing on sustainability, inclusivity, and an international outlook.
The Theater im Prater is being designed in accordance with the highest ecological and social standards, incorporating energy-efficient building systems and resource-conserving materials. Barrier-free access and an inclusive design ensure that visitors with diverse needs can participate on an equal footing. At the same time, the building integrates sensitively into the historic Prater landscape. The result is a vibrant cultural venue that combines environmental responsibility with social openness.
We hope you’re looking forward to it!
