New Opening

New theatre coming to prater in 2027

Our capital will soon have a brand new musical theater. It will be built in the middle of Vienna’s amusement park, the Wurstelprater. The future, aptly named Theater im Prater is to be built by 2027 on the open space that has been used by the Olympia Looping in recent years located at the corner of Kratky-Baschik-Weg and Zufahrtstraße.

Musical theater with 1,800 seats

The Theater im Prater will be the third musical stage in Vienna alongside the Raimund Theater and the Ronacher and is intended to help double the annual number of musical visits in Vienna to up to 1,000,000. The project is being implemented by ATG Entertainment, which is certainly a well-known name among theater and musical fans. The company already operates a total of 64 renowned venues in the USA, Great Britain and Germany. “We want to present outstanding and spectacular shows to the discerning audience in Vienna and the many musical tourists. I am sure that the Theater im Prater will strengthen Vienna’s reputation as a musical and cultural metropolis in the heart of Europe in the long term,” says Joachim Hilke, Managing Director of ATG Entertainment Europe. In the future, major blockbuster shows will also be presented in Vienna.

The architectural planning of the project is being carried out by the Viennese firm DTFLR. They are supported by the renowned theater architects Haworth Tompkins from London. Together, they want to ensure careful integration into the historical ambience of the Prater and also set new standards in terms of sustainability.

Byebye Olympia Looping?

If you are a fan of the traveling Olympia Looping, the news may make you feel a little anxious. But we have good news for next season! The owner of the roller coaster has confirmed that the Olympia Looping will be back in the Wurstelprater during the 2025 season – construction is scheduled to begin in February. However, it is possible that this will also be his last visit to Vienna… With that in mind: best to take the opportunity to go next year!
