Old Viennese Carousel lifted to Riesenradplatz

Old Viennese Carousel lifted to Riesenradplatz

During last winter’s Winter Market, the new Alt Wiener Karussell (or Old Viennese Carousel) enchanted visitors at the gates of the Wurstelprater. Now the carousel has found a new location for the 2026 season – prominently placed directly at Riesenradplatz.

Spectacular crane operation

On Wednesday, January 21st, 2026, the nostalgically designed carousel was lifted from Gabor-Steiner-Weg to Riesenradplatz with the help of a spectacular crane operation. The 20-ton attraction was relocated in one piece in two stages: first from the lawn directly in front of the bridge marking the entrance to the Wurstelprater, and then, in a second step, to its final position in the middle of Riesenradplatz.

Carousel made in France

The two-storey carousel, which celebrated its premiere at the Prater in 2025, was built by a renowned carousel manufacturer from France. The motifs and figures of the carousel, which is 12 meters wide and 10.6 meters high, were lovingly hand-painted. With a total of 46 figures, it offers 74 seats and is suitable for children aged 2 and up. A ride on the Alt Wiener Karussell lasts approximately 3 minutes.

The Alt Wiener Karussell will be delighting visitors at Riesenradplatz until October 2026. Afterwards, for the duration of the Winter Market at Riesenradplatz, it will be moved back in front of the gates of the Prater, to Gabor-Steiner-Weg.
