Tagada by Florian Rainer at WestLicht
From September 12th to November 9th, 2025, the WestLicht Photo Museum will present the World Press Photo exhibition for the 24th time. Traditionally, the exhibition is accompanied by a presentation by a contemporary artist – this year, it's the exhibition Tagada by Florian Rainer!
Tagada by Florian Rainer
Tagada is a household name among all Prater fans. It's not only one of the most legendary rides in Vienna's Wurstelprater, but also a focal point and refuge, especially for young people on the cusp of adulthood. Here, people meet, smoke, date, cuddle, perform, and test their own skills against those of others. Here, on the rotating disc, you feel weightless for fractions of a second. Florian Rainer, born in 1982, accompanied the teenagers throughout a COVID-19 summer in 2020. The result is a photographic coming-of-age story that you should definitely see at WestLicht.
World Press Photo 2025
The annual photo exhibition brings together the world's best work in photojournalism. A total of 140 photos from 60,000 submissions were selected this year by an international jury of experts. The World Press Photo of the Year 2025 depicts nine-year-old Mahmoud Ajjour, who lost both arms in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza City in March 2024. The photo was taken a few months later in Doha, Qatar, where the boy and his family had been taken for medical treatment. Photographer Samar Abu Elouf, who herself was evacuated from Gaza in December 2023, lives in the same Doha apartment complex as Mahmoud. There, she has developed friendships with some of the Gaza families and documented their stories, as well as their sometimes serious injuries, for The New York Times.
